Florence Nightingale Lantern Procession

In 1976, as part of the campaign to build a hospital for Milton Keynes, the Hospital Action Group organised a procession with a giant Florence Nightingale.

Arts for Health and Milton Keynes University Hospital decided to celebrate the NHS and the fantastic work that the staff do by recreating the parade.

They commissioned Festive Road artists to run a school workshop making lanterns, and to create a giant 'Florence' lantern puppet.

On the evening of 9th November, pupils from Langland Community School took part in a mini parade around the hospital grounds with their lanterns and 'Florence' before making a thank you presentation to the nursing staff at the hospital.

Everyone had a wonderful time!
